EN1317 STANDARD

Safety guardrails must comply with the EN1317 standard and must be CE certified by an approved certification body (ASCQUER or equivalent).

The CE marking guarantees the product’s compliance with the EN1317 standard in terms of performance criteria and traceability. The CE marking does not guarantee the product’s durability; only the manufacturer is authorized to provide its own warranty. Rondino offers high-durability safety products. Our wood is Class 4 Pine, and the high-performance steel is hot-dip galvanized to ensure the highest quality.

Road Restraint Systems (RRS) are evaluated according to three criteria.

A) Containment Level

Niveau retenue Glissières de sécurité

B) Impact Severity Index

The ASI (Acceleration Severity Index) measures the severity of the impact for vehicle occupants.
Level A provides the highest level of safety.

CLASS ASI VALUE
A LOW ASI ≤ 1,0
B MEDIUM 1 < ASI ≤ 1,4
C HIGH 1,4 < ASI ≤ 1,9

C) System Deformation

Working width (Wn), Dynamic deflection (Dn), Vehicle intrusion (Vin)

Norme dispositif de déformation pour glissière de sécurité en bois et métal.

D) Vehicle intrusion (VIn)

Vehicle intrusion represents the maximum dynamic lateral position of the vehicle relative to the traffic-facing side of the barrier.
The European standard classifies Vi values into different classes from VI1 to VI9.

Standardised vehicle intrusion level classes Standardised vehicle intrusion levels (m)
VI1 VIn ≤ 0,6
VI2 VIn ≤ 0,8
VI3 VIn ≤ 1,0
VI4 VIn ≤ 1,3
VI5 VIn ≤ 1,7
VI6 VIn ≤ 2,1
VI7 VIn ≤ 2,5
VI8 VIn ≤ 3,5
VI9 VIn ≥ 3,5

NOTE 1: In specific cases, a vehicle intrusion level class lower than VI1 may be specified.

NOTE 2: Dynamic deflection, working width, and vehicle intrusion make it possible to determine the installation conditions for safety barriers and to define the distances to be maintained in front of obstacles.

RONDINO is a member of the French standardization committee at BNTRA – Road restraint systems (RRS).

RONDINO also participates in the working group of the European Commission TC226/WG1 for the development and revision of the European EN1317 standards.
